The Ebbinghaus Forgetting Curve reveals how quickly we lose new information unless we actively reinforce it. In the late 1800s, Hermann Ebbinghaus studied memory retention and found that without review, knowledge fades rapidly – especially right after learning.
1. Meaningful Learning
We retain information better when we connect it to existing knowledge. Making learning relevant and engaging improves retention.
2. Stress and Memory
High stress negatively impacts memory. When we’re overwhelmed, our brain struggles to process and retain new information effectively.
To counteract memory loss, Ebbinghaus identified a simple yet effective technique:
1. Spaced Learning
Rather than cramming, review smaller doses of information over time.
2. Regular Review
After a learning experience, reinforce knowledge through structured reviews:
By following the Forgetting Curve principles, we can improve memory, boost learning retention, and make knowledge last.
